Bankruptcy and Divorce:
This is a complicated subject and I won't do justice to it on this small web page, but you need to understand this.

You are going from a two income household to a one income household. You might be taking the children with you who are expensive.

Your ex may make enough money to pay a significant amount of child support.

Even though you are dividing the debts from your marriage, the creditors still have a right to collect from each of you even if the debt was assigned to the other spouse. This is what is known as community debt and both the husband and wife are liable for that debt if the debt was incurred during the course of the marriage.

If the two of you are able to have a frank and open discussion about divorce and you are both agreeable to it, you may also be able to have a frank and open discussion about bankruptcy and discharging you debt's prior to getting a divorce.

You may find that after seperating, neither one of you are able to maintain the same lifestyle that you had before. Two income household becoming one are always difficult. Filing bankruptcy prior doing your dissolution can eliminate having to decide who gets the debt from the relationship as there isn't going to be anymore debt.
